**The Corry Beavers Football team finished the 2005 season with another heartbreaking loss, losing to the Harbor Creek Huskies 14-12. The Beavers waited too long to get started after falling behind 14-0, when Steven Blose took the first play from scrimmage 40-yards for a touchdwn, he then added the 2-point conversion, Blose later kick a 41-yard and 37-yard field goal. That was all the Huskies would need. The Beavers got on the board with 11:54 to go in the game when Senior Fullback Robert Slava scored on a 15-yard run, the PAT was no good. After a second down sack by Senior Defensive Lineman Shane Thieme, Junior Brandan Eck intercepted a Blose halfback pass and the Beavers were back in business. But on 4th and 14 the Beavers had a controversial "no call" in the endzone on a pass play and had to hand to ball back to Harbor Creek. After forcing them to punt, the Beavers got the ball back  but the Huskies intercepted Sophomore Quarterback Aaron Gluvna at the 5-yard line. On first down the Beavers forced a fumble and Eck jumped on it, one play later Junior Tailback Paul Flick carried the ball across the goalline, the run attempted for the conversion failed, making it 14-12 Huskies. Again the Beavers forced a Blose fumble and the Beavers drove the ball to the 25-yard line and tried a 42-yard field goal with :09 seconds put the attempt was short of the uprights giving the Beavers their fifth loss of the season by a touchdown or less. The Beavers finished a respectable 4-6. Flick finshed the game with 117 yards and finished with 1,028 rushing yards on the season, the Beavers first 1000-yard rusher since 1996. **Corry played a rare Saturday Night Game at Erie Veterans Stadium versus Erie Strong Vincent which came into the game with a 6-1 record and ranked honorable mention in the recent state rankings. The Beavers were not intimidated and played their best defensive game of the year limiting the Colonels to only 135 total yards, including just 27 in the second half. However the offense did not provide enough points for win and the Beavers fell to 4-4. With 4:34 to go in the game Junior Quarterback Brenden Carney ran around right end for a 13 yard touchdown run. The Beaver elected to go for the two-point conversion and Junior Tailback Paul Flick was stopped just short of the goalline. Flick lead Corry in rushing with 64 yards. The Beavers then held Vincent with a three and out and got the ball back with just over two minutes to go and again began driving the ball but the drive stalled with less a minute to go when Vincent picked off Carney to seal the deal. Kyle Gates lead the Beavers with 13 Total Tackles, two tackles for loss and a fumble recovery.

September 25th
Friday night Corry was handed their second straight defeat losing 7-6 to Meadville. That makes two straight game where the Beavers beat themselves because of metal breakdowns and penalties. In both cases the better team did not win. The Beavers scored first with 11:50 to go in the second quarter when Senior Fullback Robert Slava scored from  3-yards out.  The point after was blocked by Meadville. The Beavers had two other scoring chances in the 2nd when they had first and goal inside the 10-yard line. The first trip ended in a botch field goal attempt, the second on downs as the Beavers couldn't step up and make the big play for the score. Meadville scored after the Beavers had stopped the Bulldogs on Fourth and two, but the Bulldogs got a new set of downs after an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty and capatalized scoring on a first down pass play with 2:33 to go in the 3rd quarter. Junior Paul Flick ran for 110 yards for the Beavers moving his season rushing total to 526 yards. Junior Linebackers Kyle Gates (15), Paul Flick (12), Nick Leofsky (10) all played great on defense. September 20th
The Beavers were handed their first loss of the season on friday night 27-22 as Warren scored on a 60-yard pass play with 1:36 left in the game. The Beavers had  two touchdowns negated because of penalties and conserverial calls by the officials. The Beavers had many opportunities throughout the game to put the Dragons away but couldn't capitalize. The Beavers came out firing with an opening drive that ended with Junior Tailback Paul Flick carrying the ball over from the 1-yard line. Flick carried the ball 24 times for 207 yards on the night. The offensive line did a great job helping the Beavers rush for over 250 yards, that line includes Senior Right Tackle Nick Roussin, Senior RIght Guard Nick Carlson, Sophomore Center Phillip Leslie, Senior Left Guard Jared Durlin, Senior Paul Carney, and Junior Tight End Nick Leofsky. Senior Fullback Robert Slava also had a big night blocking and rushing running for 62 yards on 10 carries. With the score 7-6 (Warren) late in the second period, Junior Quarterback Brenden Carney hit Senior William McCray on a 24-yard pass play with only 11 seconds left in the half however Sophomore Jeff Eaton Returned the ensuing Kickoff  75 yards to put the Dragons on top 14-12 going into the locker room. The Dragons scored in three plays to start the third quarter to make it 21-12, but Flick took the next offensive play for the Beavers and raced 52 yards to cut the lead to three (21-19). Aaron Murphy booted a 20 yard field goal with 4:32 left in the 3rd quarter to give the Beavers the lead back 22-21. The score would stay that way until 1:36 left in the 4th when the Dragons hit the long TD pass to put Corry away.

**The JV team lost a shortened game 23-0 to Warren Monday night. The game was called in the middle of the 3rd quarter due to thunder and lightening in the area.

September 13th
**Last Friday Night the Beavers moved to 2-0 on the season with a hard fought vicotry over a physical Titusville team. The Beavers scored first set up by an interception by Junior Linebacker Nick Leofsky. A few plays later Junior Quarterback Brenden Carney hit Senior Receiver William McCray for a touchdown, the extra point went wide giving the Beavers a 6-0 lead. The lead would stand until the Rockets scored 14 unanswered points in the 2nd quarter for a 14-6 halftime lead. The Beavers would strike again with a Carney to McCray score to make it 14-12. Tremendous Defense early in the fourth quarter allowed the Beavers to stay undefeated on the season when they stopped Titusville twice inside their own 20-yard line, including a Jared Durlin fumble recovery, when the Senior Defensive Lineman fell on a fumbled snap. Sophomore Free Safety Aaron Gluvna had the big play on the last serious threat with a sack of  the Rockets Quarterback on 4th Down. After that play Junior Tailback Paul Flick took the first play from scrimmage over 40 yards to set up Junior Fullback Kyle Gates 25-yard Touchdown run with a little over 3 minutes to go in the football game. The Beavers stop the Rockets on four downs to seal the second win of the season, already equalling last years win total. Junior Linebacker Kyle  Gates finished the game with 15 total plays on defense and Senior Defensive End Robert Slava had 3 sacks in the game. Corry totaled 5 sacks for -45 yards as well as 3 tackles for loss. Another great TEAM effort for the Beavers.

September 4th
**Friday night Corry got a big home win against the Franklin Knights. A total team effort allowed the Beavers to move to 1-0 on this young season. Corry's defense and special team got them out a big hole early with a key interception by Senior Safety Will McCray and some great punting by Senior Punter Tyler Amy (Hammer Award Winner). The Beavers got on the board with a 62-yard Pitch Pass from Junior Tailback Paul Flick to McCray. After Amy pinned the Knights deep with a punt that landed out of bounds at the 11-yard line, Sophomore Safety Aaron Gluvna returned an interception 28-yards for a score. Junior Quarterback Brenden Carney then hit McCray for the 2-point conversion to make it 14-0 at the half. The Beavers put the game away early in the 4th quarter with a picture perfect 82-yard TD pass from B. Carney to Wide Receiver Brandan Eck. The extra point was no good making it 20-0. Franklin then scored with 2:23 to go in the game to set the final at 20-7. The defense pressured Franklin's quarterback all night with Ends Robert Slava and Matt Dennis, Defensive Lineman Jared Durlin and Ein Daley and Linebacker Kyle Gates doing most of the damage. Eck lead the team with ten total plays from his corner position. The Beavers forced four turnovers in the game and Flick rushed for over 100 yards on the night.

**Saturday morning it wasn't the same story as Corry lost to the host Knights 30-0 in JV action.
